Marcella Florence (Karcher) Miller, 88, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of McLeansboro, died 2 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at River Pointe Health Campus in Evansville, Ind. Marcella was a long-time resident of McLeansboro and was moved to Evansville, Ind. in 2010. She was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Belle Prairie, the daughter of Oscar Valentine and Rosa Barbara (Pfister) Karcher. She married Sylvester N. (Wesley) Miller on Nov. 27, 1947, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis; he passed away Feb. 3, 2001. They were married more than 53 years. She was a homemaker who also worked as a seamstress at Elder Manufacturing in McLeansboro. She was a member of St. Clement’s Catholic Church, McLeansboro. She was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society and enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, sewing, antique collecting and anything church related. She invested her considerable energy into caring for her family and supporting her church. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Robert) Ewin of Evansville, Ind., and Lisa (Robert Jr.) Hut of Rye, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Mark (Chelsee) Miller of McLeansboro, Megan Miller of San Diego, Kelly and Kortney Ewin of Evansville, Ind., and Katherine Hut of Rye, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Lesley Miller of San Diego and Corbin Goodwin of Evansville, Ind; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Miller of McLeansboro; and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dr. Stephen W. Miller, DVM; three brothers, Leo (Dorthea) Karcher, Linus (Cleo) Karcher and Jimmy (Pauline) Karcher; and two sisters, Alberta (Bill) Karcher and Viola (Donald) Grubb. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Harre Funeral Home. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at St. Clement’s Catholic Church, McLeansboro, with Monsignor Joseph Lawler and Fathers Slawomir Ptak and Joseph Trapp officiating. Burial will be at St. Clement’s Catholic Cemetery, McLeansboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Researech Foundation, Dysautonomia International or St. Clement’s Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, which is in charge of all arrangements.
