Manuel's Story

Manuel Smith, 80, of McLeansboro, died 6:32 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at McLeansboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 13, 1935, in Hamilton County, the son of Ralph and Dorothy Johnson Smith. He married Patricia Sue Carr; she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by stepson, Chuck Wheeler of McLeansboro; stepdaughters, Sandra (Jeff) Bullock of Dahlgren and Susan (Dennis) Friedman of McLeansboro; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Harold Kittinger of McLeansboro; and sister, Barbara Carter of Galatia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one great-granddaughter.
He retired from the City of McLeansboro as a light power plant operator. He was a member of Masonic Polk Lodge 137. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Delafield Baptist Church.
Graveside memorial services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the veteran's section of IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Masonic services were performed by the Polk Lodge 137. Graveside military rites were accorded by American Legion Post 106.
