Oakwood - Mabra Jean (Edenburn) Scott, 90, of Oakwood IL passed from this life at 8:05 pm on Wednesday September 6, 2017 at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL surrounded by her husband and children.

Mabra Jean was born on May 5, 1927 in Gifford, IL to Dr. Frank L. and Elsie N. (Dearing) Edenburn. She grew up in Gifford, then moved to Oakwood at age 11, graduating from Oakwood Township High School in 1945. After high school, she attended Champaign Beauty School in Champaign, IL, receiving her state license as a registered cosmetologist in 1946.

Mabra Jean married Wayne R. Scott in 1946 in Danville, IL and they would have celebrated their 71st anniversary on September 16th of this year. She is survived by her husband Wayne and their children Matilda (Chuck-deceased) Cushwa of Fithian, IL, Greg (Sandy) Scott of Roseville, MI, and Betsy (Ted) Vacketta of Danville, IL. Grandchildren include Wendi Cushwa of Fithian, Ben (Stacey) Cushwa of Catlin, IL, Melissa (Paul) Behrens of Beverly Hills, MI, Richard (Christina) Scott of Macomb Township, MI, Rev. Jessica Vacketta of Fort Worth, TX, Erik Scott of Roseville, MI, and Leslie (Greg) Schebler of Livermore, CA. Great-grandchildren are Diamond Starr of Springfield, IL, Kelsi Cushwa of Oakwood, William, Mackenzie, and Jacob Cushwa of Champaign, IL, Austin Booza and Eloise Scott of Macomb Township, MI, Anna and Leah Behrens of Beverly Hills, MI, and Lily and Penny Schebler of Livermore, CA. Great-great-grandchildren include Myla Carter of Fithian, Gunnar Kirkpatrick of Oakwood, and Payton Hay of Springfield. Additional survivors are brothers-in-law James Scott of Danville, Clarence Scott Jr. of Nashville, TN, and Glenn (Jeannie) Scott of Danville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mildred Rodgers, Melvina Evans, Maxine, and brother Melvin.

Mabra Jean was the owner/operator of Scott's Beauty Shop in Oakwood, and she was also the staff beautician at Colonial Manor Nursing Home for several years. She was a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star. In earlier years, Mabra Jean served as a Cub Scouts den mother, and PTA president at Oakwood Grade School. She attended Oakwood Christian Church for several years and served there for a time as Sunday School Superintendent.

Some of her favorite activities were knitting and crocheting items for family and friends. She was a staunch supporter of the athletic teams of Oakwood Unit #76 as well as the University of Illinois. She loved playing euchre, and would always delight when she could get that last trick with a right bower. She loved to vacation in Gatlinburg, TN, where her favorite activities were shopping, picnics at the Chimney Tops campground, and having her favorite strawberry pancakes at the Pancake Pantry.

Mabra Jean's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She loved to decorate for all the holidays, and the more lights and noise that a decoration had, the better. She would cook up a holiday feast that would leave you stuffed for days, especially her delicious yeast rolls. Her sense of humor and her fun-loving nature will be missed by so many, but the love that she gave unconditionally will remain forever in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to spend the years with her.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday September 12, 2017 at Robison Chapel with Reverend Jessica Vacketta officiating. Burial will follow at the Stearns Cemetery in Fithian, IL.

Visitation will be Monday September 11, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm at Robison Chapel, 103 Douglas Street, Catlin, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to the Oakwood Community Education Foundation in care of Robison Chapel, P.O. Box 79, Catlin, IL 61817.
