Lola Joyce Rhodes Smith, age 82, of Albion, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at her home where she lived with her daughter and son in law. Lola Joyce was born on Dec. 14, 1932, near Epworth. Her parents were the late Willard F. and Lula (Ridenour) Ackerman. She was homemaker who was known for her homemade bread. She loved to sew, square dance. She was a member of the Shooting Stars Square Dance Club, volunteered for the needy and helped in her church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Albion. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, friend and will be missed. Lola is survived by a son, Joseph E. “Dusty” (Michelle) Rhodes; daughters, Brenda (Terry) Moore, Lois (Rick) Mercer, Sharon (Craig) Whitler and Rebecca (Robert Carpenter) Stanley; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister in law, Mrs. E. Wayne (Frances) Ackerman; two brothers, William (Pat) Ackerman and Kenneth (Patsy) Ackerman. She is preceded in death by six brothers; four sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law, Fred and Dorothy, James and Rosemary, Herbert and Helen, Howard and Wanda, E. Wayne and Joseph A.; and a sister, Lulu and John Vinson. Visitation for Lola will be on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Carmi. Her funeral service will immediately follow starting at 12 p.m. at the church. The Reverend Kirk Rowe will officiate. Her burial will follow in the Kuykendall Cemetery East of Carmi.
