Leo Henry Schnarr, 85, of Opdyke, Illinois passed away at 11:18 A.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at his home in Opdyke, Illinois. He was born Tuesday, August 18, 1931 in Evansville, Indiana to parents, John and Loraine Schnarr. He married Marian Garrison on December 8, 1951 in Evansville, Indiana and she preceded him in death on July 31, 1995.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2016 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Wendell Garrison officiating. Interment will follow at East Salem Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois.
A Visitation will be from 9:00 to Service Time 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2016 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Leo is survived by his two sons: Danny L. Schnarr and wife Nancy of Opdyke, Illinois and Donald L. Schnarr and wife Nina of Centralia, Illinois, two grandchildren: Kyle Schnarr and wife Jennifer of Carmi, Illinois and Arian Harris of Mount Vernon, Illinois, three great grandchildren: Emily; Anthony; and Amarveon, and sister: Marilyn Boreup of Evansville, Indiana. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
His parents, wife, one son: Edward Schnarr, seven brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.
Leo first worked for Wonder Bread then later for HAAS Bread as a bread route driver. He was a member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and a member of the Teamsters Union. He also taught Sunday School at Second Baptist Church in Mount Vernon where he also served as a Royal Ambassador Teacher. Leo coached Khoury League Baseball, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed golfing with his wife.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Mission on Purpose at Second Baptist Church of West Frankfort and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
