Lena Rose Williamson, 94, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:18 P.M. December 7, 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born October 15, 1923, near Keenes, Illinois to James Veryl & Rosa Mae (Peyton) Anderson. She married Lester Ralph Williamson on December 29, 1945, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on March 12, 2005.
Mrs. Williamson is survived by her son, Dr. Michael Williamson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and daughter-in-law, Dr. Susan Williamson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 3 grandchildren, Mary R. Williamson and her husband, Josh Zuckerman, M.D., M. Ross Williamson, and Michelle R. Williamson; brother, Harold Anderson and sister-in-law, Dru; and sister-in-law, Maxine Anderson as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jim Anderson, Jabe Anderson; and sister, Janet Anderson Yagee.
Lena attended Franklin School and was a 1941 graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School where she played violin and won the American Legion Award. She attended Shurtleff College in Alton for one year and Brown's Business College in Decatur for one year.
Lena worked for Lester Davis in the Jefferson County Clerk's Office for about 10 years and then at Mt. Vernon Truck Body for several years before moving to Fresno, California. In California she worked for the California Raisin Advisory Board. She attended Park Avenue Baptist Church.
Visitation: 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn Illinois.
Interment: Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Park Avenue Baptist Church.
