Superintendent Lee Andrew Reed Sr. transitioned this life from earth to glory on June 25, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana, to be with his heavenly father.
Lee A. Reed, Sr. was born to the union of Florida (Dixon) Reed and Reuben Reed on Oct. 2, 1934 in Leland Miss. Supt. Reed was the loving husband of 62 years to Beverly J. Lillard married on March 23, 1964, in Danville. Supt. Reed was the devoted father of Debra J. Reed, Daphne (Mark) Dixon, Lee (Gwendolyn) Reed Jr. all of Danville, Donna (Felton) Beck Jr. of Peoria, Ill., Darlene (Nathan) Dawson of Rantoul, Diane Sexton of Urbana, Danielle (Louis) Cherubin and Dana Reed of Ocala, Fla.
Supt. Lee Reed is survived by his sisters: Barbara (late Milford) Martin, Ruby (Houston) Dandridge, Byrecia (Fredrick) McKinney, Tammy Wilson all of Danville, Ernestine (late James) Adams of Posen, Ill. and brothers, Pastor Tommy (Inell) Reed and Jerry Lee (late Cassandra) Reed of Danville, Pastor Roosevelt (Rose) Reed of Alton, Ill., Robert (Anita) Reed of Champaign, Leslie Reed of Chicago, Gregory (Edna) Reed of Bloomington, Ill., Timothy (Gina) Reed of Georgetown, Bryant Keith (Linda) Charlotte, N.C. He was blessed with 38 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He had many spiritual sons and daughters.
Supt. Lee Reed became a member of Mason Temple Church of God in Christ under the late Bishop Freeman Guy Green and later under Pastor Reuben Reed in which he became the assistant Pastor. In 1980, Supt. Lee Reed became Pastor of Mason Temple Church of God in Christ and served as Pastor for 37 years. Elder Lee Reed was elevated to Superintendent of Good Tidings District in 2006 and worked faithfully until the Lord called him home. Pastor Lee Reed also worked at General Motors and was one of the first African Americans to get accepted into the Apprentice Journeyman Program that promoted him to the position of Machine Repairman. He was blessed to retire after 45 years of service. This enabled him to devote all of his time to his pastoral duties. Supt. Lee Reed had many hobbies, including traveling, carpentry, family time, gospel music, and the Word of God.
Supt. Lee Reed was preceded in death by his parents, Florida and Reuben Reed and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Mason Temple Church of God in Christ Pastoral Scholarship Fund in honor of Pastor Lee Reed Sr.
A visitation will commence from 4-6 p.m. Friday, June 30, at St. Synagogue Church of God in Christ. The family is scheduled to be present from 5-6 p.m. A Celebration Service will begin at 6 p.m.
Funeral Services will commence at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at St. Synagogue Church of God In Christ, 2605 East Main Street, Danville, IL 61832. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial Spring Hill Cemetery.
