Lay Edward Odomes, 51, of Danville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 23, 2017, surrounded by his family and close friends.
Born Jan. 4, 1966 to proud parents Lamar and Marvie Odomes in Grenada, Miss. Lay started his Christian journey when he accepted Christ into his life as a young boy at Burning Bush Baptist Church in Grenada.
He attended Grenada Public Schools, graduated from Duck Hill High School and later attended Community College in Goodman, Miss. Lay worked numerous jobs in Mississippi before moving to Illinois over 20 years ago. After moving from Chicago to Danville, he was employed with AutoZone Distribution Center. Later, he stepped out on faith and started his own trucking company, Faith Trucking. Lay remained a self-employed entrepreneur from that time on.
Lay was a former member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and later joined New Life Church of Faith where he served as a Deacon until God called him home.
Lay found his soul mate, Macherly (Jordan) Odomes and they were united in holy matrimony July 13, 2002. They recently celebrated 15 years of marriage.
His strong voice, infectious smile, contagious laughter and beautiful personality illuminated every room in which he entered. His spirit had a way of making every person in which he came in contact feel special. He simply loved people; he simply loved life.
Together, he and Macherly built a legacy of love with their children and family.
Lay leaves to carry on this legacy his wife: Macherly Odomes; father: Lamar Odomes; children: Kapresha Jordan-Payne, Taylor Odomes, Arreis Jordan, Arterreis Lofton, Jamal (Dominique) Knox, Dominique Berry and Malcolm Crump; brothers: Danny (Kelly) Odomes and Christopher (Tania) Odomes; sister: SaTonya Odomes; brother-in-law: Moses Red Jr.; sister-in law: Chandra (Anton) White; father and mother-in law: Moses and Dora Red; grandchildren: Aniya Jordan, Layla Jordan-Payne and Kayden Jordan; goddaughters: Sariya Crider and Ezreyona Reed; special aunts and uncles: Hattie, Ivory Dell, Jessie and Ivory Bell, Elma O'Bannon, Tommy, James, Edward and Robert Bell; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family including Norris Swims and Marcus and Tabatha Forrest.
