Kay Mayberry, 72, of Broughton, died 2:25 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro. She was born March 4, 1943, in Manteno, the daughter of Loomis “Dyke” Williams and Luella (Flatt) Williams. She married Gerald “Jerry” Mayberry on July 23, 1966, in Herscher; he survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Troy Mayberry of McLeansboro and Todd Mayberry and wife Lisa of West Frankfort; a daughter, Tanya Thornton and husband Jeff of Evansville, Ind.; six grandchildren, Brooke Mayberry, Cassidy Rennison, Bradyn Mayberry, Ella, Lucy and Sadie Thornton; a brother, Gerald Williams of Bloomington; and a step-sister, Rita Caron of Manteno; She was preceded in death by her parents. She worked as a University of Illinois Home Extension Advisor and Family Life Educator. She attended Herscher High School and earned a master’s degree from University of Illinois. She was a member of Hamilton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, served as president of HEA Board, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and sang in the church choir. She attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s events when possible. She attended New Prospect Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Mark Byars and the Reverend Alan Monroe officiating. The visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at First Baptist Church in McLeansboro. Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery, southeast of McLeansboro. Memorials can be made to Hamilton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Hamilton County Relay for Life. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
