Joseph's Story

Joseph Charles Welsch 96, formerly of Danville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, in Naples, Fla., surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Joe was born in Danville, on Feb. 18, 1920, the oldest of five children of Ethel and John Welsch. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and Danville High School before serving five years as a chief electrician in the United States Navy aboard the USS Columbia, during WW2.
He married the love of his life, Pauline White, on July 3, 1948. They were married for 67 years before she preceded him in death in 2015. He attended St. Raphael's Catholic Church and retired from Illinois Bell. Joe and Polly retired to Englewood, Fla. where they spent many years enjoying "just another perfect day in paradise". Joe enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends and serving the Polynesian Village where they lived for over 30 years.
Joe will be missed by his sons, Larry (Patti) Welsch of Danville, and David (Denise) Welsch of Naples, Fla.; and his daughter, Toni (Rick) Payton of Englewood, Fla.; grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Welsch, Theresa (Garrett) Fitzsimmons, Brian Payton, Joe Payton, Dillon Welsch, Justin (Lauren) Gibson, and Adam Gibson; and great-grandchildren, Austin Welsch, Hailey Fitzsimmons, Colin Fitzsimmons, and Dylan Fitzsimmons. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, William (Mary) Welsch, George (Peggy) Welsch, John (Rosalie) Welsch, Virginia (Charles) Galeener; a granddaughter, Amber Welsch; and a great-grandson, William Welsch.
There will be a mass and Rite of Committal for both Polly and Joe at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Englewood, Fla. on Tuesday, March 7 at 8:30 a.m.
