ROSSVILLE - Joseph Eugene Dunavan, 66, of Rossville, Ill., passed away at 12:13 p.m. December 24, 2017, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Joseph was born the son of Lewis and Lola (Stutler) Dunavan on March 30, 1951, in Danville, Ill.
He married Eva Berglund on July 8, 1978, in Danville. She survives.
Survivors include his wife, Eva of Rossville; his daughter, Jennifer (Dane) Thomas of Evanston, IL, the light of his life; granddaughter Lola Thomas, one sister, Susan Smith of Perrysville, IN, and many nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents.
Joe farmed in the Perrysville, Ind., and Rossville, Ill., area throughout his life and was a man of many talents, some of which included mechanics and woodworking. He was very fond of restoring antique John Deere tractors, operating steam engines, appreciating trains and going to car shows and NHRA drag races.
He also enjoyed traveling various places across the United States with his beloved wife, Eva. Joe was known to be a connoisseur of pie, all kinds of pie. He was especially fond of raisin, pecan and butterscotch. He also was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to the Beach Boys.
The family cordially invites his family and friends to attend A Celebration of Life "Pie Social" from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, December 30, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville. A Graveside Committal Service will be at 3 p.m. (Illinois time) December 30 at Lower Mound Cemetery in Covington, Ind., with Reverend Boni Quandt officiating.
