Chaplain John Warnke, 59, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Ridge Farm, Ill., went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, holding hands with his beloved wife, Denise, and his daughter, Jessica. He had fought a long battle with congestive heart failure and COPD.
John was born in Perry, Iowa, on March 21, 1957, to the late Eldon and Edwina Warnke.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Divan-Warnke; children Justin (Amanda) Warnke, Erin (TJ) Shue and Jessica Warnke; one brother, Bob (Bev) Warnke; six grandchildren, Trevor, Kirstin, Briana, Madelyn, Brody and Emma; one aunt, Florence (Frank) Warnke; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim (Barb) Warnke, and Roger (Pat) Warnke.
John graduated from Beardstown High School and the University of Illinois. Although he worked in many industries, he told everyone that the best "job" he ever had was as a volunteer chaplain for Venture Church in Glendale, Ariz. He had a passion for serving God with whatever strength and in whatever capacity he could, and directed much of that passion towards men's ministry in the church and community.
John was known for his generosity, quick wit, infectious laugh and his love of the Minnesota Vikings, Twins and the Fighting Illini. He will be greatly missed by all who have known and loved him.
A memorial celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at First Church of Christ, 503 N. Main St., (across from McDonald's) in Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial gifts be given to The Venture Church - Men's Ministry, 15410 North 67th Avenue, Suite #5, Glendale, AZ 85306.
