John Phillip Sloan, 82, of Danville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5 at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street, in Danville, with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at Pape's. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery, with honors by American Legion Post 210.
John was born on June 23, 1934, in Danville, to Forrest and Rosalie (Jones) Sloan. He went into the United States Marine Corps. John worked for many years in the tool crib for GE, sold mobile homes for McArdle, along with working for the City of Danville, mowing and taking care of the parks. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting coins and all sorts of other items.
John married Sally Reuther in June 1957, who passed in 2012. John remarried Donna June Snider in July 1974, having shared over 40 years together before her passing in 2014. Survivors include daughter, Sherri (Greg) Thomas; two grandchildren, Jason Thomas and Jennifer Thomas; and sisters, Betty and Naomi. John was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Clifford Sloan; and brothers, Forrest Sloan Jr., Robert Sloan, and William Sloan
