John McKenzie, 64, of McLeansboro, passed away 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. He was born April 3, 1951, in McLeansboro, the son of Sherman McKenzie and Georgia (Barber) McKenzie. He married Kay Lyons on April 3, 1980, in McLeansboro in their home. He is survived by his wife, Kay (Casey) McKenzie of McLeansboro; three sons, Chad Beene and wife Kellyann, Marc McKenzie and wife Julie and Jarrod McKenzie and wife Melissa; two daughters, DeeDee Watts Salters and husband Todd and Meagan Ford and fiancé Jerry Greenwood; three brothers, Cecil McKenzie, David McKenzie and Mark McKenzie and wife Alice; two sisters, Marilyn Eli and husband Bob and Sandy Johnson and husband Danny; and grandchildren, Michala, Chloe, Hayden, Kaydee, Jase and Brynna . He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Georgia McKenzie and brother, Jimmy McKenzie. As per John’s request, he is to be cremated and his ashes scattered into the Wabash River at Maunee in a private service by his family. The Rev. Dan Atkinson will officiate. Visitation was held Thursday, March 10, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. He was Baptist by faith and was a foreman employed by the Norfolk & Southern Railway. He loved his family, hunting and fishing. John was a member of McLeansboro Elks Lodge 1882, Eagles Lodge 2699 and the Hamilton County Coyote Club Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all arrangements.
