ATTICA, Ind. - Local businessman John Daniel Hoffa, 84, formerly of Attica and had been wintering in Spring Hill, Fla., passed away at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at his Spring Hill residence.
John was born in Yeddo, Ind., on May 19, 1932. He was the son of the late John Daniel and Clara (Barnett) Hoffa, Sr. He was raised in Lafayette, attending Centennial Grade School and Lafayette Jefferson High School.
He has been a resident of Attica for over 50 years and for several years wintered in Spring Hill, Fla.
Mr. Hoffa was a local businessman who founded the Circle H Discount Center in Attica. He has owned and operated the Circle H for 30 years until turning the business over to family.
John has been very active in Attica. He was a former member of the Attica Eagles Lodge 2596; former member and past president of the Attica Retail Merchants Association; former member and past president of the Attica Chamber of Commerce. He was past treasurer to the Attica Centennial Celebration, which was the forerunner to the Potowatomi Festival that Attica celebrated for many years.
John was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. At the time of his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of corporal.
John enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and western artifacts.
On May 17, 1980, John married Gloria Smith in Attica.
He leaves behind his wife, Gloria of almost 37 years; two sons, Daniel Hoffa, Attica, and David Hoffa, Terre Haute, Ind.; a daughter, Tracy Hoffa, Attica; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John M. Hoffa, and a sister, Colleen Hoffman.
Friends may call noon-2 p.m. EST Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica. Service time will be at 2 p.m. EST Saturday. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
