John 'Kag''s Story

John "Kag" Robinson, 86 of Danville, Ill., transitioned from life at 8:29 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones in his home.
John Robinson III was born November 27, 1930, the son of John Robinson II and Velva Douglas Robinson. As a child, John was given the nickname of Kag.
John was the fourth eldest of 10 siblings including Geneva, Howard, Marie, Edith, Juanita, Elmer, Norma, Evie and Chuckie.
John graduated from Danville High School in 1950.
John married Ernestine Mitchell in 1956, and fathered six children, John Robinson IV (Laurie), Gary Robinson (Verma), Carolyne Brown (Lamont), Debra Watson (Mark), Charles Robinson (Candy) and Sondra Compton (Darrell). From his children, he has been blessed with 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
During his younger years, John and his mother opened a BBQ restaurant and named it "Kag's BBQ." In 1951, John started a career job at General Motors. During the same year, John was drafted in the Korean War where he served two years in the Army. After the War, John returned to his job and GM and worker for 36 years. He retired in 1987.
At this time John had plenty of time to enjoy his many hobbies including gardening, fishing, BBQing, traveling and spending lots of time with his family and friends.
John found his faith at an early age while attending St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Later as an adult his love for God continued at The Israel of God's Church W.H.A. under the direction of Bishop Ronald Henton and Pastor Jason Henton.
John lived a full life of love and laughs. He created many happy memories and will truly be missed.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Velva; father, John; brothers Elmer and Howard; and sisters Geneva, Maria, Edith and Juanita.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at noon Monday, November 13, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Bishop Ronald C. Henton. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery. Leek & Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
