James "Red" Alvin Roberts, 77, of Tilton, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at home surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Friday, May 5, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville. Services will be at noon May 5 at Pape's with Pastor Michael Luke officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, with military honors by Westville American Legion Post 51, American Legion Riders and The Patriot Guard.
James was born on Jan. 22, 1940 in Athens, Ala., to Herman and Nellie (Bedingfield) Roberts. After high school, he signed up for two terms in the U.S. Army.
After the service, he worked at General Motors for 25 years, retiring in 1990. James enjoyed gardening, fishing, and loved his dog Pepper Hobo.
James married Sarahann D. Boyle, she preceded him in death in 2002.
Survivors include his children, Vern (Mary) R. Walser III, Bill Walser, George (Joanne Seilhymer) Goelz, Terry (Misty) Goelz, Debbie (Michael) Doggett, Laurie (David) Murphy, and Teresa Ann Roberts; brothers, Clayburn (Rhoda) Roberts, Ray Roberts, and Leon (Mary) Roberts; sisters, Vaughnie (Kenneth) Faulkner, Ruby (Ted) Brown, and Wiladean Miller; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son: James "Jimbo" Roberts; brothers: Martin "Joe" Roberts and DC Roberts; brother-in-law: Bobby Miller; grandchildren: Will Charles Meers, and Seth Justin Meers; and great-grandchild: Cheyann Hardwick.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Aaron and Heather from Transition Hospice, along with David Brown and Jackie Jones for all their help.
