James W. "Jim" Hayes, Sr., 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 1:37 A.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born Tuesday, May 3, 1938 in Jefferson County to parents, John K. and Reatha (Stewart) Hayes. He Married Shirley Lisenby on October 25, 1958 in Shawneetown, Illinois. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 28, 2016 at East Salem Baptist Church with Reverend Randy Hayes and Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will folow at East Salem Cemetery.. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at

Wife: Shirley Hayes of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Sons: James W. Jim, Jr. and wife Christine of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Samuel Hayes and wife Selena of Mount Vernon, Illinois. 4 Grandsons: Darrell Hayes and wife Mary of St. Louis, Missouri, J. Darrin Hayes and wife Bridget of St. Louis, Missouri ,Austyn Taylor Hayes of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Dylan Hayes and wife Sierra of Opdyke, Illinois. 1 Great granddaughter : Claire Hayes of Saint Louis, Missouri. 1 Great grandson: Expected in February. 2 Brothers: Terry Hayes and wife Judy of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Randy Hayes and wife Vicki of Mount Vernon, Illinois. 2 Sisters: Shirley Reeker and husband Fred of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Judy Flota of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Brother-In-Law: Jerry Lisenby and wife Wanda of Bluford, Illinois. Sister-In-Law: Joyce Lynch and husband Doug of Carlinville, Illinois. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. His parents, 3 brothers-in-law: Tom Bain, Wendell Lisenby and Larry Flota and one sister-in-law: Delores Bain preceded him in death. Jim served in the United States Army from 1961 - 1963. Jim attended East Salem Baptist Church. He first worked at Waynes Marathon for 12 years. Then he spent 24 years as a Welder for Dowzer Electric. After retiring from Dowzer Electric, he spent 17 years working in the office for Cattlemans Livestock.
