Howard Hoskins, 81, of McLeansboro, died 8:55 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Veteran’s Administration Community Living Center in Marion. He was born Feb. 11, 1934, in White City, the son of Jacob Hoskins and Bertie (Reeves) Hoskins. He married Brenda (Beachum) Reed on Sept. 20, 1994, in Owensboro, Ky.; she survives in McLeansboro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Craig Hoskins and wife Rhonda of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; a daughter, Angie Colbert and husband Mark of Norris City; a stepson, Jeff Reed and wife Debbie of McLeansboro; a stepdaughter, Audrey Skropka of McLeansboro; nine grandchildren, Chad Hoskins, Carissa Hoskins, Cara Hoskins, Taylor and Mattie Colbert, Brent Reed, Stacy Winemiller, Lindsey Whisenhunt and Angela Cross; five great-grandchildren, Jace and Luke Cross, Dane Whisenhunt, Alyssa and Adrienne Winemiller; three brothers, Dee Hoskins and wife Dorothy of Norris City, Robert Hoskins and wife Ruby of Broughton and Eddie Hoskins and wife Fran of Norris City; a sister, Frances Hamblin of Norris City; a sister-in-law, Judy Webb and husband Steve of McLeansboro; a brother-in-law, Gale Beachum and wife Nancy of Herrin; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lowell “Tudor” Hoskins. He worked as an appliance service technician. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, Ind. He was in the U.S. Army as a private first Ccass from March 9, 1954, to Feb. 25, 1956. He was a member of American Legion Post 109 of Norris City. He loved hunting, fishing, tinkering in his workshop and loved country and blue grass music. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Chris Marsh officiating. The visitation was held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial was at Powell Cemetery near Norris City. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
