HOWARD ALLYN DAVENPORT
Howard Allyn Davenport, 96, of DeKalb, Illinois passed away on October 31, 2017 at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center with family at his side.
He was born June 1, 1921 in Belle Rive, Illinois to the late Albert and Lillie (Cremeens) Davenport.
Howard was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army at Posts in Colorado Springs, Washington State, San Diego and Manila. He was discharged as a Sergeant after V-J Day, receiving the Bronze Star for his efforts in the campaign at Luzon. Howard returned to the Mt. Vernon, Illinois area, eventually relocating with his family to DeKalb in 1956. He worked for the Wurlitzer Piano Company and later at the United States Postal Service in Sycamore, Illinois until his retirement in 1988.
He was a faithful, loving husband, kind parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, generous man and a life long sports fan. He will be dearly missed by his family and those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Eva Jean Capps Davenport. His children, Allyn (Martha) Davenport of Monona, Wisconsin; Joan (Jim) Leach of Harrogate, Tennessee; and Steven (Carrie) Davenport of Sycamore, Illinois. Seven grandchildren, Donna (Allen) Wagenecht of Morrison, Illinois; Dean (Pat) Davenport of Lake Forest, Illinois; Mike (Christi) Davenport of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Jimmy (Jennafer)Leach of Knoxville, Tennessee, Cindy (Joe) Porter of Harrogate, Tennessee, Dawn (Kevin) Paulson of Sycamore, Illinois, and Dustin (Carin) Davenport of Sycamore, Illinois. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Harold and Jimmy Davenport; and three sisters, Mary Petersen, Annabel McClure and Doris Boyer.
The Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb with the Rev. Gary Davenport and Rev. Eric Ngum Mangek presiding.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until the time of services, Saturday, November 4 at Anderson Funeral Home.
Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date.
