Helen Frances Compton, 90, of Hoopeston, Ill., passed away at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
She was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Glasgow, Ky., the daughter of Buford and Hazel (Franklin) Webb.
She married Wilford "Tuck" Compton on April 10, 1950, in Hoopeston. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2013.
She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Johnson of Hoopeston, and Teresa (Mike) Dean of Hoopeston; one son, Steve (Verna) Compton of Hoopeston; one step-daughter, Linda Atteberry of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Webb of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one step-daughter, Charlene Young; three sisters; and two brothers.
Helen worked at American Can in Hoopeston for 43 years, until her retirement. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards. She also loved to go shopping and was an avid dancer. Helen's greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. A memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating.
