Harold D. Sands, 71, of Georgetown, passed away at 7:58 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at his home. He was born on April 30, 1946, in Danville, the son of Elmer and Audrey (Sanders) Sands. He was united in marriage to Nora D. Owen on Dec. 31, 1965, in Georgetown. She survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Jamie (Chad) Green of Nashville, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Green of Nashville; his sisters, Judy Makemson of Danville and Norma Fox of North Carolina; his sister-in-law, Eunice Sands; his special niece, Tina Kagels; many special nieces and nephews; his special friends, Ray and Shirley Thompson; his wonderful caregivers, Teresa Oatis and Tressa Brandt; and his faithful canine companion, Foxy Lady. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger and Sonny Sands; sisters, Joyce Etchison and Phyllis Lawrence; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Cope.
Harold was a member of the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene. He loved cars, his dog, Foxy Lady, and making crafts. Harold enjoyed collecting die-cast cars and loved going through town on his electric wheel chair. He was a man of faith and loved the Lord and cherished his family.
A celebration of Harold's life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown, with Pastor Troy Horne officiating. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Danville.
