Harold Everett "Speed" Chambliss, Jr., 78, of Bluford, Illinois passed away at 6:55 A.M. December 4, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born September 17, 1939 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Harold E. and Maxine (Moore) Chambliss, Sr. Harold married Jackie (Gutzler) Chambliss on March 11, 1961 in Bluford, Illinois. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his children, Tara McKenzie of Saint Jacob, Illinois, Dena Wiggins and husband, Jim of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Troy Chambliss of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Tracy Hughes and husband, Brent of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Talisha Chambliss Roider and husband, Lee, Bryce McKenzie and wife, Heather, Cody Lee Wiggins, Kylie Marlowe, Brayden Hughes, and Hailey Hughes; great-grandchildren, Everett McKenzie, Elliston McKenzie, and Sampson Roider; siblings, Darrell Chambliss of Seabring, Florida and Sandra Manley and husband, Jerry of Ina, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his infant siblings, David Chambliss and Sara Chambliss; sister, Darlene Brown; son-in-law, Jamie McKenzie; and brothers-in-law, Don Cameron and Noland Brown.
Harold, known by many of his friends and family as Speed, served his country in the United States National Guard. He worked for General Radiator for many years. Later, he worked as a car salesman in the Mount Vernon area, and lastly, as a security guard for Continental Tire for 18 years. Speed was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan and never missed a game. Speed enjoyed his yearly family vacations and fishing with is son and daughter-in-law. Though he was known as Speed, Harold was best known as a loving husband, father, and Pa Pa. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Friday, December 8, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 8:00 P.M. with Reverend Merle Fullerton officiating. A private Interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Chambliss Family, in care of Jackie Chambliss.
