December 31, 1947 - October 04, 2018

Gregory Dean Thornsbrough, a long-time resident of Westville, Ill., died suddenly October 4, 2018, at the age of 70.
Greg was born December 13, 1947, in Danville, Ill. Shortly after his father became a state trooper in 1959, his family was transferred to Astoria, Ill., where he graduated from Astoria High School.
After Astoria, his family was transferred to Pekin, Ill., for several years. Then they were transferred back to the Danville area and opened their Tasty Delight Ice Cream Store in Tilton. After several years, they opened Kustard Delight in Westville.
In addition to working in the family ice cream businesses, Greg worked as a laundry truck driver at Rantoul Air Force Base. He also worked at Republic Services Brickyard Disposal Landfill for more than 11 years. After he left there, he worked in lawn care for the state.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bess (nee Shahadey) and Wayne Thornsbrough; a brother, Rodney Blayne Thornsbrough, who died in infancy; maternal grandparents, Moses and Mary Shahadey; aunts and uncles, Katie and Anthony LaHood, Rosie and John Moreiko, Charles and Dorothy Shahadey, Katherine and Howard Schultz; cousins, Delores Schultz Mullen and Charles Shahadey; paternal grandparents, Ennis and Evelyn Thornsbrough; aunts and uncles, Alan Jay Thornsbrough, Wallie Stephenson, Vernis Thornsbrough, George Sutton, James (Butch) Cain; and several cousins.
Greg is survived by his brother, Michael Thornsbrough of Westville; maternal first cousins, Janet (Thomas) Moreiko-Gagen and family of Swansea, Mary (Peter) Leo and Tony LaHood, both of Santa Rosa, Calif., Janice (Charles, deceased) Shahadey and family of Herrin, John Blair and family of Champaign; his sisters, brother and their families; paternal aunts and uncles, Shirley Stephenson and family, Harlan Thornsbrough and family, David (Carolyn) Thornsbrough and family, Jo Lynn Sutton and family all of Alvin, June Cain and family of Pittsboro, Ind.
Greg will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He never knew a stranger and befriended everyone, always jokingly challenging them to a foot race. He enjoyed being with family and friends, playing cards and slot machines. He was an avid Cubs and Yankees fan and enjoyed watching baseball, basketball and wrestling.
A celebration of Greg's life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 12, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville, and will be officiated by Greg's cousin, Reverend Bruce Thornsbrough of West Lebanon Christian Church of West Lebanon, Ind. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, with an additional prayer service given by Reverend Thornsbrough and Reverend Michael Contos of Three Heirarchs Greek Orthodox Church of Champaign officiating.

Greg was a wonderful human being always ready to lend a hand when something needed to get done. He had a cheerful manner about him and as mentioned above could make friends with any one he met. I will miss him.
