Gene Arthur Wands went home to be in the arms of Jesus on January 2, 2018, at 5:43 p.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Per his wishes, he was cremated. Memorial visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, January 6, at Second Church of Christ, 3350 E. Voorhees St., Danville, with a memorial service at noon to follow, with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating.
Gene was born February 28, 1939, in Effingham County, Ill., to Arthur and Meta Wands.
Gene and Carolyn were married 57 years and had four wonderful children.
Upon retiring 17 years ago from Prescott Valley Christian Church, they moved to Danville in 2001. Gene had several preaching interims in the surrounding areas.
Another passion of Genes' was to restore dilapidated homes back to their historical state in west downtown Danville. Another passion was to travel anywhere with Carolyn and his family. Gene loved the Lord first, then his family and anyone he ever met.
Gene served in the U.S. Army, spending his time with Carolyn in Kitzingen Germany from 1961-1964.
Gene leaves behind his beautiful, loving wife, Carolyn; two sons, Guy (Naomi) Wands and Gary (Lilliana) Wands; two daughters, Corina (Kris) Masterman and Tina (Larry) Kimberlin; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Sarah) Wands; three sisters, Elinor Wolford, Wanda Rishiem (Bruce Johnson), and Darlene (Marvin) Leighty; many nephews, nieces; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded by his parents, brother Eldon Wands and brothers-in-law.
