Gaylan Jean (Gail) Karnes, 60, of McLeansboro, passed away 4:21 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon She was born Feb. 27, 1954, in Tolu, Ky., the daughter of David and Jenny Lois (Glore) Agent. She married Kenneth Karnes; he survives. In addition to her significant other, Kenneth Karnes, she is survived by a daughter, Tina M. Brown and fiance Tony Handy of West Frankfort; a stepson, Thomas John Karnes and wife Crystal of McLeansboro; a stepfather, Hurrel McKay of Whiteland, Ind.; three brothers, Rick Agent of Chicago, John McKay and wife Lisa of McLeansboro and Tom McKay of McLeansboro; a sister, Janet Smith and husband Rodney of Hanson, Ky.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth Jacob Karnes; and a sister, Betty. She worked as a cook and a restaurant manager for most of her life. Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
