Gary's Story

Gary Lee Dunavan, 67, of Rossville, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. He was born Sept. 28, 1949, in Danville, the son of Charles William and Frances Mildred (Martin) Dunavan. He married Linda Lou Stump on July 18, 1969, in Pence, Ind. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2016.
He is survived by two daughters, Nikki (Andy) Smith of Rossville, and Kristin (Chris) Boen of Rossville; two sons, Jamie (Cindy Wolfe) Dunavan of Rossville, and Scott (Somer) Dunavan of Rossville; two sisters, Donna Martin of Covington, Ind., and Sharon Cramer of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Larry Dunavan of Rossville; six grandchildren, Bryson Foster, Jarrett Smith, Kayla Dunavan, Kylie Dunavan, Tiffany (Trenton) Lanter and Dawson Grissom; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Stump. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins and one special cousin, David (Peggy) Baird of Winnebago, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and one brother, Charles.
Gary was self-employed, owning Triple D Mowing since 2000. He was a member of the Pence Methodist Church in Pence. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an avid fan of the Oakland Raiders and the Oregon Ducks. Gary loved spending time with his family and attending his grandkids' sporting events.
A visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at the funeral home, with Pastor Gary Milton officiating. Burial will follow at Mann's Chapel in rural Rossville.
