Gail A. Parr, 63, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 6:45 A.M. April 1, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born February 2, 1954 in Marlow, Illinois to parents, Everett and Nola (Highsmith) Greer.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 3, 2017 at West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Gail is survived by her two sons, Nathan Parr and wife Sarah of Bonnie, Illinois and Jared Parr of Champaign, Illinois; two grandchildren, Deacon and Delanie; three brothers, David Greer and wife Stephanie of Mount Clemens, Michigan, Marlin Greer and wife Karen of Murray, Kentucky, and Leonard Greer and wife Sonnie of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Marilyn Johnson and husband Terry of Holland, Michigan, Joyce Scott of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Greta Lawrence and husband Mike of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and nieces and nephews, Kimberly Futrell, Laura Prater, Dawn Choate, Rachel Cary, Janise Page, David Greer II, Jeffrey Greer, Stephen Greer, Zachary Greer, Craig Lawrence, Julie Lawrence, Sarah Richardson, and David Lawrence.
Her parents and one brother-in-law, Marshall Scott preceded her in death.
Gail graduated from Mount Vernon Township High School in 1972, Rend Lake College, and SIU Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science degree. She later attended Rend Lake College for a second time and found her true calling as a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan hospital where she worked since 1997.
Her large and extended family has long been a source of pride, fellowship, and great companionship. Her children and grandchildren served as the greatest source of joy for her. She also enjoyed gardening, nature, and wildlife. Gail Parr was an active member of Christian Fellowship Church in Mount Vernon where she attended for many years. In addition to her own family, her work family meant the world to her and supported her until her final days.
