Gail's Story

Text size

Our Lord, in His infinite wisdom, has called our Gail Robin Buford home to be with Him.
Gail was born in Danville, Ill., to Thomas M. and Barbara (Overstreet) Buford on June 26, 1960.
She was baptized and cultivated her strong faith in Christ at Allen Chapel AME Church. Gail received her education through District 118 and earned her high school diploma from Danville High School in 1978.
Gail invested in her community through her many years at Danville Housing Authority and later, as Tutor Coordinator at the Boys and Girls Club, cherishing the opportunity to build knowledge and self-confidence with the community children ("my babies," as she called them).
Gail will be remembered for her love of Black dolls and memorabilia, her class and impeccable taste, intelligence and ability to bring out the best in the ones around her. She embodied the love and compassion of Christ allowing people to be their authentic selves without judgement. Gail had incredible wisdom and ability to cut through confusion and friction to see things clearly.
She leaves to honor her memory her son, Ty G. Buford of Danville; her daughter, Lacey V. Buford-Lillard of Normal, Ill.; her sisters, Lisa Buford Obiereze of Durham, N.C., and Michelle (Jerry) Buford Patton of Bloomington, Ill.; her brother, Thomas E. Buford of Indianapolis; her aunts, LaWanda Overstreet Baker of Danville, and Valera Buford of Ontario, Calif.; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews who all cherished their unique relationship with her.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas M. and Barbara Buford; uncle, Donald Eugene Buford; grandparents, Leo and Valerie Overstreet and Hollis and Sarah Buford; and cousin, Frederick L. Baker.
A Memorial service will commence at noon Friday, March 16, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Officiating: Pastor Steve Perkins. Leek & Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to www.leekandsonsfuneralhome.com.
