Frederick Eugene “Joe” Glassford, 73, of McLeansboro, died 12:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. He was born July 11, 1942, in Flora, the son of Nelson Eugene Glassford and Eva Elizabeth (McGrew) Glassford. He married Sandy Gould; she preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2009. He is survived by one son, Mark Glassford and wife Connie of Silver Hill, Ala.; one brother, James Glassford and wife Charlotte of Flora; three grandchildren, Lily, Samuel and Noah Glassford of Silver Hill, Ala.; a mother-in-law, Kay Gould; four brothers-in-law, Chuck Hamilton and wife Sue, Rick Gould and wife Sue, Ron Gould and wife Penney and Scott Gould; one nephew, Yancey Glassford and wife Lori; one niece, Tammy (Glassford) Steele; two great-nephews, Sturling Steele and wife Tara and Cody Glassford; and two great-nieces, Trisha Steele and Katy Glassford. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sandy. He was a retired Special Education Administrator; a Director of Wabash and Ohio Valley Special Education from 1974-1993; an Executive Director of Sangamon County Special Education District; a Professor of Eastern Illinois University; a member of Illinois Quarter Horse Association; and a member of Elks Lodge #1882. A celebration of life will be held 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at Elks Lodge in McLeansboro to honor “Joe.” His son, Mark and family members have invited friends to attend. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
