Everett's Story

Everett Harold Wood, 88, of Milford, passed away at 4:44 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. He was born April 23, 1929, in Rossville, the son of Harold and Mabel (Andrews) Wood. He married Barbara Crook on Dec. 24, 1952, at the Prairie Green Church of Christ. She survives in Milford.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie (Lynn) Campbell of Champaign, and Cathy Jennings of Stonefort; two brothers, Harry (Emma) Wood of Danville, and John (Trudy) Wood of Champaign; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son- in- law, Mike Jennings.
Everett was a postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Milford. He was also the town clerk in Milford. He felt honored to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Milford Lions Club and the Milford Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. Everett loved taking care of his yard, traveling, spending his winters in Florida, and helping with the farming.
A visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main Hoopeston. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at the Milford Christian Church, 811 E. Hickory St. Milford, with Rev. Neil Larimore, Pastor Gary Milton and Pastor Brent Zastrow officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post No. 384.
