Evelyn E. (Miller) Brown, 88, of Bismarck, passed away at 5:44 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was born July 5, 1928, in Danville, the daughter of Otto E. and Mary F. (Shedlock) Miller. She married Floyd "Spike" Brown on April 18, 1948 at Bismarck Church of Christ in Bismarck. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, who were all raised on the family farm in Bismarck, Daniel (Sharon) Brown of Flannagan, Ill., Donna (Terry) Light of Bismarck, Darrell (Suzie) Brown of Hoopeston, David (Kathy) Brown, of Bismarck, Dennis(Antha) Brown of Danville, Darlene (John McCormick) Van Pelt of Hoopeston, Duane (Sherye) Brown of Bloomington, Ill., and Douglas Brown of Bismarck; six sisters, Loretta Reifsteck of Henning, Flora Belle (Richard) Knight of Bismarck, Frances Youmans of Armstrong, Rita (John) Shepherd of Danville, Nancy (Chet) Towner of Cayuga, Ind., and Rose Mary (Gerald) Moss of Danville; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents; four brothers, Arland "Sonny" Miller, William "Billy" Miller, Robert Miller, and Marvin "Butch Miller; four sisters, Barbara Weaver, Genevieve (Genny) Roberts, Marilyn Reifsteck, and Betty Jane Miller, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Evelyn was a homemaker and worked at Flowers and Gifts by Molly Culbert. She was a 4-H leader, a VFW Auxiliary Senior Vice President and Trustee, a member of Bunco Club and Keenagers Club through Bismarck Methodist Church and involved in the Master Gardener program. Evelyn enjoyed gardening and canning, crocheting, attending Vermilion County and Georgetown County Fairs, rocking on her front porch while visiting with her neighbors, and spending time with her family and close friends.
A visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Northside Church of Christ, 17167 E. 2750 North Rd, Bismarck. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Northside Church of Christ with Pastor Jim Russell officiating. Burial will be at Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck.
