Eugene Deboise Wiley, 92, of Centralia, Illinois passed away at 11:47 A.M. November 11, 2017 at Centralia Manor in Centralia. He was born January 24, 1925 in Mound City, Illinois to Kenneth Wayne and Myrtle Eva (Karraker) Wiley. Eugene first married Anita Faye (Lumpkins) Wiley on May 17, 1946. She passed away on September 13, 1983. He later married Billie Imogene (Samples) Wiley on December 3, 1983 in West Frankfort, Illinois. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2001. On July 21, 2001, Eugene married Mary Kathaleen (Malcom) Pengelley Wiley in Centralia, Illinois. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2017.
In addition to his wives, Eugene was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Alan Eugene Wiley; and eight brothers and sisters.
Eugene is survived by his children, Cecil Wiley and his wife, Wynona of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Susan Talton of Edwardsville, Illinois; grandchildren, Nicole Brueggeman and husband, Greg of Missouri, Christopher Wiley of Oregon, Adam Wiley and wife, Summer of Oklahoma, Aaron Wiley and wife, Jennifer of Georgia, Matthew Wiley of Florida, Michael Wiley of Florida, Mark Wiley and wife, Jennifer of Washington, Heather Johnson and husband, Kyle of Utah, Heidi Thomas of Utah, David McLean and wife, Jennifer of California, Jennifer Knipping and husband, Troy of Illinois, and Kristy Schroeder of Illinois; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Nevada as a gunnery range finder, both at Normandy on D-Day and in the Pacific in the Japanese conflict during WWII. He worked as a Chief Clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad. Eugene was a founding member of Mount Vernon and Centralia Wards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held various positions including Branch President, Director of Family History and Genealogical Library, Stake Patriarch, and St. Louis Temple Sealer. His enjoyed studying genealogy in his spare time. Most of all, Eugene was the inspiration for Wiley Strength. He was loved and respected by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation: Friday, November 17, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service: Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home with Elder Ben Goodwin officiating. Interment: Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
