Eugene Mayberry, 87, of Broughton, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Dale, the son of Moses William Mayberry and Julia (Wheeler) Mayberry. He married Norma Faye Cantrell on April 24, 1949, in McLeansboro; she survives in Broughton. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Brenda Douglass of McLeansboro; two grandsons, Corey Douglass and wife Ashley of Omaha and Kyle Douglass and wife Julie of Mt.Vernon; three great-granddaughters, Amelia, Hadley and Kylie Douglass; and two sisters, Faye Allen and Nell Harrawood. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pearl Rountree and Betty Steele; and three brothers, Earl Mayberry, Wheeler Mayberry and Donald Mayberry. He was a farmer. He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Dale Methodist Church. He was a member of Carmi American Legion and Carmi VFW. He loved farming, his family and quail hunting. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Bobby Gentry officiating. Graveside Military Rites were conducted by American Legion Post 224 Carmi. The visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial was at Digby Hill Cemetery in Dale. Memorials may be made to Wabash Christian Retirement Center or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
