Emmalu Brewer, 96, of Westville, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2018, at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana, formerly Presence Covenant.
She was born December 8, 1921, the daughter of John and Bertha (Possalt) Shimkus.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth Brewer on May 29, 1947, and they enjoyed 70 years together. He will miss her dearly.
Emmalu will also be missed by her daughters, Sheila (Tom) Leva and Betty Williams; her grandchildren, Erik (Missy) Hill, Carl (Tonya) Hill, Amanda (Jason) Brown, Ryan (Star) Williams, Todd (Brenda) Wakeland, and Tonya (James) Folsom; her 16 great-great grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Phyllis.
Emmalu had worked for the VA Hospital, First National Bank in Westville and also served at the Westville Village Clerk for 14 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Westville American Legion Auxiliary for 80 years. She was a gifted member of the Sweet Adelines who enjoyed knitting, reading, playing cards, as well as singing and dancing. Emmalu loved to travel.
Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and grandkids.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 231 N. State St., Westville, with Father Sauppé officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville. She will be entombed in Resurrection Cemetery, Danville.
