Elva "Josie"'s Story

Elva Josephine "Josie" Robertson Kern, formerly of Olivet, Ill., went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the Newman Rehabilitation Center in Newman, Ill.
Josie was born in Georgetown, Ill., to Clarence and Nettie Robertson on January 20, 1938. She went to Georgetown High School.
She married Robert Dean Kern on July 30, 1993, in Olivet. He proceeded her in death on January 10, 2003.
Josie was a homemaker and worked several years at Steel Grip in Danville, Ill. She was a member of Olivet Nazarene Church.
Survivors include seven children, Rhonda (Randy) Berlin, Hume, Ill., Debra (Mark) Kincaid, Sidell, Ill., Eugene (Brenda) Galey, Parsons, Tenn., David (Diane) Galey, Winchester, Ind., Robert (Sharon) Galey, Ellabell, Ga., Anita Dorene (Mark) McCollum, Arthur, Ill., Jamie (Jeff) Jumps-Robertson, Hillsdale, Ind.; and their father; six stepchildren, Gene (Julie) Kern, Paragould, Ariz., Richard Kern, Cleveland, Ohio, Wesley (Brenda) Kern, Shiloh, Ill., Teresa (Herb) Norton, Westville, Ill., Penny (Jeff) Davis, Dana, Ind., Monte Kern, Dana, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 35 step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-step-grandson; and seven siblings, Mary Helen Reed, Danville, Harvey (Lynn) Robertson, Danville, Claude (Eileen) Robertson, Georgetown, Leo (Emily) Robertson, Coos Bay, Ore., Lawrence Robertson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Elsie Lorene Luce, Peachtree, Ga., Herman (Hazel) Robertson, Manteca, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dean Kern; parents Clarence (Nettie Kinney) Robertson; sister Alberta Bardell; and a son-in-law, William Jumps.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the Newman Rehabilitation Center for the support in her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 13, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West St., Georgetown. Pastor James Blue will officiate. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, November 12, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Georgetown Cemetery.
