Elder Billy's Story
Elder Billy T. Cross, aka Bishop, 72, went on to be with the Lord on March 2, 2018.
Born in Union City, Tenn., on June 2, 1945, to the late Frelon Cross Sr. and Ida Lou (Tittsworth) Cross.
He graduated in 1962 from Miles High School in Union City, Tenn. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
Following his enlistment, he moved to Danville, Ill., in October 1967. Elder Cross retired from Hyster Forklift. He was a member of Mason Temple COGIC and later became a member of Saints Synagogue COGIC under the leadership of the late Elder Ruben Reed. Elder Cross was called into the ministry and was ordained in 1975.
He married the love of his life on June 2, 1969, Dorise J. (Johnson) Cross. They had three children, Shavawn L. Cross of Mishawaka, Ind., Tania L. Cross of Danville, Ill., and Billy T. (Leslie) Cross II of Danville, Ill. He was a loving Grandfather, aka "Poppa," to the late Teaghan Nichole, Tripp, Beck and Brae.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at noon Saturday, March 10, at Saints Synagogue Church Of God In Christ, 2605 E. Main St., Danville. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Viewing will be 1-5 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville. Officiating: Elder Tommie Reed. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, at Danville National Cemetery.
