Eileen's Story

Eileen Louise Hamilton, 92, of Hoopeston, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. She was born April 24, 1924, in East Lynn, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Alma May (Jaynes) Longfellow.
She married Gerald "Peanut" Hamilton on June 26, 1941 in Cahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Marcia (John) Klink of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, Robert (Debbie) Hamilton, of Hoopeston; one son-in-law, Steve Ettelbrick of Springfield, Ill.; one sister, Barbara Koufos of Dyer, Ind.; two brothers, John (Sandy) Longfellow of DeMotte, Ind. and Daryl (Wilma) Longfellow of Sevierville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; one daughter, Karen Ettelbrick; three sisters, Mary Schultz, Marge Young, and Betty Davis; one brother, Robert Longfellow; and one brother-in-law, Jim Koufos.
Louise worked as a nurse's aide at Hoopeston Hospital and later at Danville VA, before her retirement. She was a member of Hoopeston United Methodist Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the University of Illinois and the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Louise also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and attending her grandchildren's activities.
A visitation will be held 12-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home with Pastor Cathy Najmon officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery.
