Edward Arthur Wright, 76, of Oakwood, and formerly of Paris, died at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was the former service manager at Coffey Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Paris.
Mr. Wright was born Dec. 10, 1940, at his family home in Paris, the son of the late Thomas Owen and Mary Agnes Henson Wright.
He is survived by two daughters, Suzanne (Aaron) Williams of Casey and Leslie (Daniel Tomes) Wright of Kansas; brothers, Dave (Vicky) Wright of Oakwood, Don (Ellen) Wright of Danville, Bob (Brenda) Wright of Oakwood, Jerry (Terri) Wright of Texas, John (Wendy) Wright of Covington, Ind., and Jim (Shari) Wright of Oakwood; one sister, Julie (Larry) Hall of Villa Grove; six grandchildren, Sheadon K. Wilson, Wyatt Tomes, KayneTomes, Anthony (Shannon) Wooten, Bryttany Wooten and Chelsey Wooten; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheri M. Wooten; a brother, Timothy O. Wright; a sister, Jayne Wright Wolfe; and a nephew, Timothy C. Wright.
Mr. Wright attended St. Mary's School of Paris and was a member of the Catholic Church. He served as an altar boy at St. Mary's Catholic Church as a youth and was a member of Cub Scout Pack 3675 in association with Boy Scout Troop 675.
A 1959 graduate of Paris High School, Mr. Wright was an active school athlete. He was always working on automobiles first as a paint and body man then as a Ford mechanic.
In his younger days, he was a stock car racer and then an avid drag racer and built a drag truck called The Misfit.
At the time of his death, he was a member of New Life Church of Faith in Homer, the Latter Rain Church of Danville and the Catholic Church.
The family will host a memorial service celebrating his life at 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 10, 2017, at the New Life Church of Faith, 505 W. Crittenden, Homer. Family and friends are invited to gather at 5:30 p.m. for a time of sharing before the service. Templeton Funeral Home of Paris assisted with arrangements.
