Eddie Lee "Big Ed" Edwards Sr., 77, of Hoopeston, Ill., passed away at 8:04 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at his home.
He was born November 11, 1939, in Hoopeston, Ill., the son of Albert E. and Lena Mae (Staton) Edwards I.
He married Sheila Land on October 3, 1959, in East Saint Louis, Mo. She survives in Hoopeston.
He is survived by two daughters, Misty Edwards (Keith Bell) of Hoopeston, and Kristi Edwards (Craig Blackwell) of Cape Coral, Fla.; three sons, Eddie L. (Candy) Edwards Jr. of Hoopeston, Albert "Al" (Rochelle) Edwards II of Alvin, Ill., and Brian L. Edwards (Dawn Rogers) of Hoopeston; four sisters, Sandra Drullinger of Hoopeston, Kay Hampton of Hoopeston, Cheryl (Larry) Stephen of Hoopeston, and Wendy Edwards (Andy Fink) of Hoopeston; three brothers, Terry "TA" Edwards of Hoopeston, James A. "Bo" (Diana) Edwards of Hoopeston, and Tom Edwards of Hoopeston; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; infant brother, Ralph; sisters-in law, Sharon Edwards and Barb Land; brothers-in-law, Paul Drullinger, Dick Hampton and Doug Land; nephews, Darin Stephen and Mike Bagley and several aunts and uncles.
Eddie owned and operated his own roofing business, Action Roofing. He then owned the Second Chance Saloon in Hoopeston for many years. He later worked at Flex-N-Gate until his retirement.
Eddie served in the United States Air Force from March 1957- March 1961. He attended First Church of God in Hoopeston. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, riding his motorcycle and taking the kids for rides, traveling and white-water rafting. Eddie also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and watching the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Bears.
A visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, October 27, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Sam Terrell officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston. Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post 384.
