E. Darcelle "Darcy" Vance, 58, of Kendallville, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born July 28, 1959, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of Luanne (Fogleman) Jarvis and the late Jerald Price.
Darcy graduated from Danville High School in Danville, Ill. Her work focused on helping others, working at the State of Illinois Employment Office in Danville, Head Start in Garrett, Ind., and, most recently, The Northeastern Center in Kendallville, Ind., a facility that assists those in need achieve emotional and mental wholeness.
She was an advocate and ally for those suffering with mental illness, volunteering for Noble County Suicide Awareness and Prevention. Her work touched the lives of many. Her greatest passion was writing, a published author of two novels, "The Geek Girls Guide to Cheerleading" and "Dating on the Dork Side." She inspired many young authors, mentoring and helping others find their voice though writers workshops. She also enjoyed reading, Facebook politics and peaceful days on the lake with her loving husband.
She is survived by her husband, Niles Douglas Vance of Kendallville, Ind.; a son, Matthew Vance of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Sara (Aaron) Andersen of Portland, Ore.; mother Luanne Jarvis of Naples, Fla; in-laws Wilma and Allen Vance of Danville, Ill.; stepbrother Brad (Lisa) Jarvis of Catlin, Ill.; stepsister Stacey (Ron) Howe of Catlin, Ill.; her brothers- and sisters-in-law; and several beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Price; her brother, Jeff Price; her stepfather, Bob Jarvis; and her stepbrother, Steve Jarvis.
A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 20, with visitation 2-4 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 311 Moses Ave., Westville, IL 61883.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are invited to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, 6316 Mutual Dr., Fort Wayne, IN 46825; and Noble County Suicide Awareness and Prevention, 2112 Logan Court, Kendallville, IN 46755
