Dr. Robert's Story
Dr. Robert D. "Doc" Hutton M.D. Col. USAF Retired, 78, of Dix, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 2:50 P.M. May 15, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born June 23, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri where he attended North East High School and Kansas City University. He married Mary Alice Lau on February 14, 1959 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He graduated from Washington University St. Louis with his M.D. in 1963 and joined the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam and many other places around the world.
He received his advance medical degree in dermatology from the University of California San Francisco in 1973 and continued his military service as a dermatologist until 1983, retiring from the Air Force as a full colonel.
He then went into private practice in Belleville, Edwardsville, and ultimately Mount Vernon, Illinois where he worked until his retirement in 2003.
Through out his life, he became accomplished in many things with his wide range of interest, including remote control modeling, HAM radio operation (advanced), art collecting, photography, and amateur astronomy. He was an avid fan of reading, travelling, music, movies, fine arts, watches, and motorcycles, among other things.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Hutton of Dix, Illinois; 2 children, Duffy of Dix, Illinois and Holly of Mount Vernon, Illinois; 2 brothers, John of Kansas City, Missouri and Chuck of Kansas City, Missouri; and 5 grandchildren, Connor, Riley, Rory, Olivia, and Elli.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lemuel Hutton, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Katelyn Hutton.

A visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A morning visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until funeral service time, 11:00 A.M. at Boyd Christian Church in Boyd, Illinois with Mr. Jeff VanMeter officiating. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery in Boyd, Illinois. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct a Flag Presentation Service at the cemetery.
