Dorothy Mae Allen, 96, a resident of McLeansboro passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017
at 1:15 a.m. at the McLeansboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
She was born April 9, 1920 to William Benson and Flora (Woolsey) Wheeler in West Frankfort, Illinois. She married Willie "Bill" Allen on March 30, 1956 and he preceded her in death.
During her life Dorothy was employed by the Elder Mfg. Company, Decatur Garment Company, Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center, the former Clines Drug Store, the former Jennies Cafe, and Hucks convenience store. Active in the community, she was a former member and chaplain of the local Eagles Ladies Auxillary, a member of the Modern Woodmen and Ladies Home Extension.
She is survived by one son; Kyle (Missie) Allen of Norris City, Illinois, two daughters; Vicki (Troy) Callahan of McLeansboro, and Kathy Jo (Joe) Hammond of Evansville, Indiana, three grandchildren; Sean Callahan, Brian Callahan, and Erin Callahan, and eight great-grandchildren; David Callahan ,Thomas Callahan, Chasity Digby, Taylor Digby, Baileigh Hall, Aleksa Hall, Landon Allen, and Gracie Allen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and three sisters.
Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Allen will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Friday until the time of service at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in McLeansboro. The Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.
