Doris M. Yeakey passed away 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was 90 years of age. She was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Timewell. She was the daughter of Herman Dewey and Vianna E. Kauder Buskirk. She married Adelbert E. Lewis on Jan. 11, 1940. He was killed in a car accident on April 20, 1959. On Oct. 5, 1962, she married Delbert W. Yeakey who helped her finish raising her children. Doris attended several one-room schools before her parents moved to Camp Point, where she finished her schooling. Doris enjoyed reading, writing, sewing, traveling, dancing and playing cards with her friends. Doris wrote a book at the age of 78. She is survived by her children, Lowell (Carol) Lewis of Tulsa, Okla., Steven (Mary) Lewis of Salem, Mo., Janet Lewis of Lewisburg, W.V., David (Patty) Lewis of Witchita, Kan., Michael (Marilyn) Lewis of McLeansboro, and one daughter-in-law, Jan Lewis of McCausland, Iowa. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also, many nieces and nephews survive her. She was preceded in death by both parents; her sister, Ellaree Bradley; a half sister, Elizabeth Sorrel; both husbands; one son, Leroy Eugene Lewis of McCausland, Iowa; a stillborn son; and a son-in-law, John Zolecki. The funeral service was held 1 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at the Lummis Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point by the Rev. Joe Tomich. Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Camp Point.
