Donald E. Daily, 81, a McLeansboro resident, died 7:19 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at his home. He was an electrical engineer for Ameren for 43 years, having worked in Granite City and Mt. Vernon. Donald was born June 21, 1933, the son of Albert and Leda (Harrelson) Daily. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 in Okinawa, Japan. He had served on the Summersville School Board for 14 years; the Jefferson-Hamilton County Board of Trustees for 17 years and coached church league basketball in Mt. Vernon and remained friends with boys he had coached. He joined as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon in 1974, and was a member for 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Daily of McLeansboro; two daughters, Charlotte Knauss and husband Kevin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sandra Rapp and husband Greg of McLeansboro; two sisters, Virginia Durham and husband Oliver of McLeansboro and Joyce Ann Williams and husband Gary of Pocahontas; three brothers, Bob Daily and wife Connie of Oakville, Mo., Ed Daily and wife Joyce of Tennessee and Mike Daily and wife Cheryl of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four grandsons, Jack Aydt, Logan, Ethan and Hunter Rapp; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Allan Rhein officiating with burial in the IOOF Cemetery at McLeansboro. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Angels on Assignment of the Mt. Vernon First United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Harre Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of all the arrangements.
