Donald Wayne Childers, 69, of Mt. Vernon, died 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Monday, Nov. 26, 1945, in East Prairie, Mo., the son of James and Virginia (Brock) Childers. He married Barb French on April 5, 1969, in McLeansboro. Donald was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1966 to 1968. He was an auto mechanic at W.G. Motors in Mt. Vernon and later owned and operated Childers Auto Repair. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Barb Childers of Mt. Vernon; son, Sean Childers and wife Laura of Millstadt; daughters, Robin Burzynski and husband Stephen of Opdyke and Amanda Tobin and husband Aaron of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, Dalton Brooks, Ariannah Burzynski, Kaylie Childers Schaefer, Danicah Tobin, Bentley Tobin, Zach Tobin and Alex Tobin; two brothers, Terry Childers and wife Patricia of Collinsville and Jim Childers and wife Vickie of McLeansboro; five sisters, Ann Roberson and husband Don of Mt. Vernon, Glenda Loftis of Mt. Vernon, Phyllis Kellison and husband Randy of Tilden, Judy Riechman and husband Steve of Richview and Sandy Shuster and husband Donnie of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sherry Miller; and one brother, Charles Childers. Funeral services were e held Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Gary Davenport and the Rev. Travis Hayes officiating. Interment was at Cubb Prairie Cemetery in Jefferson County. Visitation was held Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
