Don Funkhouser, 59, of McLeansboro, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 11:45 a.m. He was born June 16, 1955, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Billy Jo Funkhouser and Wanda (Barnett) Funkhouser. He married Betty Russell on Jan. 14, 1978, in Mt. Vernon. Survivors include his wife, Betty Funkhouser of McLeansboro; three daughters, Antonette Bennett and husband Alva of West Frankfort, Betsey Phillips and significant other Leonard Martin of McLeansboro and Len Parker and husband Mike of McLeansboro; two sons, Jeff Farthing of Mt. Vernon and Russell Farthing of McLeansboro; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Teets of Centralia; three brothers, Billy Green of Joliet, Larry Green of McLeansboro and Jeff Funkhouser of McLeansboro; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Sammy Funkhouser; and four sisters, Janice Vangilder, Beckey Funkhouser, Theresa Nelson and Edith Sue Tingle. He was a carpenter. He loved to play poker and be involved with his grandchildren. The visitation was held from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. The funeral service immediately followed at 1 p.m. Mr. Funkhouser wished to be cremated and a private family scattering of ashes will proceed at a later date. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
