Derrek Ross Welch, 23, of McLeansboro died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Evansville, Ind. He was a welder. Derrek was born Feb. 19, 1991, the son of David Curtis and Constance Elaine Jennings Welch in Mt. Vernon. He attended St. James Episcopal Church, McLeansboro. He loved to hunt, fish, ride horses and his “Harley.” He enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his parents. David and Connie Welch of McLeansboro; three brothers, Keith Welch and wife Savannah of McLeansboro, Devan Welch and wife Misty of McLeansboro and Jake Welch and wife Sarah of McLeansboro; three nephews, Kalden Ross Welch, Jalen Welch and Jace Welch; two nieces, Tessa Welch and Kinsley Welch; one God son, Boe Lee; maternal grandparents, David and Doris Jennings of Effingham; paternal grandfather, Charles Welch of McLeansboro; and numerous aunts and uncles. Services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at First General Baptist Church, McLeansboro, with the Rev. Jason Moore officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 at First General Baptist Church, McLeansboro. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and will be accepted at First General Baptist Church or Harre Funeral Home. Harre Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of all the arrangements.
