Dennis Floyd Eakin, 75, of Danville, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Presence Covenant Medical Hospital in Urbana, Ill., with family by his side.
Dennis was born on June 6, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Glen Albert and Beatrice (Haworth) Eakin.
Dennis married the love of his life, Janet Isenburg, on April 19, 1973. They have enjoyed each other's company for 45 years. She survives.
Dennis is survived by his children, David (Sandra) Eakin, Shawn (Ed) McCusker, Jamie (Bill) Hienkel, Denise Eakin and Tracy (David) Tweed; 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother; and four sisters.
Dennis graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a member of the Boy Scouts. Dennis enlisted in the United States Navy in 1961 until 1972. In 1972, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. Dennis retired from the Coast Guard in 1984. He then went to work for the Civil Service working for the Coast Guard. He retired from there in 2005.
Dennis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville. He also was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
A visitation for Dennis will take place 9-11 a.m. Friday, December 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Danville National Cemetery.
