Deane's Story

Indianola - Deane D. Winkler, 89, of Indianola, passed away at 3:05am Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Carle Hospital in Urbana.
He was born January 12, 1928 in Indianola to Albion & Hortense Baird Winkler. Deane married Nita Larrance June 8, 1958 in Catlin, IL. Nita survives as well as 1 daughter Caroline (Michael) Raney of Eureka, IL; 2 granddaughters, Melissa Raney & Claire Raney, and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Deane served in the Army during the Korean War, He was Superintendent of the Illinois Department of Public Aid Danville Office for 30yrs, serving 17 counties. Deane loved spending time in the country and a good piece of blackberry pie. He especially enjoyed his 2 granddaughters, as well as a good joke. A favorite pastime was playing dominos with friends. Deane was able to enjoy the "Honor Flight" with his daughter Caroline.
Funeral services 10am Thursday at Robison Chapel in Catlin. Craig Roller will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. Visitation is from 5-7pm on Wednesday at Robison Chapel. Memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. On-line condolences at www.robisonchapel.com
